Getting to the arch
On foot
The Original Trail, which dates to the 1890s, climbs from near Hemlock Lodge to the arch in roughly half a mile to three-quarters of a mile. The Balanced Rock Trail is a slightly longer alternative past a large pedestal rock; sections have been closed at times, so check trail status. For a longer day, the park's trail system connects to routes like the Sand Gap Trail.
By Skylift
The Skylift, a chairlift that opened in 1967, runs in season (roughly mid-March to late October) and leaves you a short walk from the arch. It's a good option for younger kids or anyone who'd rather save their legs.
More to do in the park
